A Timeline of Armstrong, Beatty, McKinney, & Magee Families!
I find it easier to do family research when I understand more about the conditions of the time I'm studying. Some of the questions I consider include, "What was life like? How did they make a living? What records were kept? What clues do we have on their existence today?"
Here's what we DO know...
Year:
1235-Armstrong originates in the area along the western Scottish borders; the first recorded bearer was
Adam Armstrong, pardoned in Carlisle for causing another man's death.
1530 John Armstrong, known as "Gilnockie Johnie" & fifty of his followers were hanged by
Scotland's King James V to silence the rebellious borderers.
1542 Battle of Solaway Moss, where none of the Armstrongs or their allies came to assist Jame's forces.
1603 The power & strength of the border clans was savagely broken by King James I, causing the
Armstrongs to scatter. It was during this time many migrated to Ulster, where a large number
settled in Co. Fermanagh & can still be found today.
1793 Organization of Militia Muster (Pay Registry Records) began in Ireland.
*1798 The Irish Rebellion & Burning of Parliment (Records Office)-
1813-1817 William Armstrong, Sr. born. (Place?)
1819-182 Anne Beatty born (Place?)
*1845 The Great Potato Famine-Millions died & millions more left Ireland.
14 May 1847 Anne Beatty married Wm. Armstrong, Sr.
1848-Isabella Armstrong born.
1850 William Armstrong, Jr. born.
1852 Elisabeth Armstrong born.
1854 Anne Armstrong born.
1859 Eleanor Georgina born.
1861 Mervyn James Armstrong born.
*The Great Migration-(Ships Passenger Lists)-Encouraged by the Great Potato Famine,
masses of Irish families began leaving their homeland bound for a new country.
April 2, 1872 James McKinney & Anne Armstrong married in Co. Donegal, Ireland.
1873-1890 Children of James & Anne (Armstrong) McKinney
March 24, 1873 William Armstrong, Jr left Millview, Ireland & settled in New Zealand.
Dec. 10th 1874 William Armstrong Sr died & was buried in Laghy
1878 William Armstrong, Jr was married in New Zealand.
1879-1892 Children of William & Karorina Armstrong, Jr. born.
1887-1888 Edward Carre-Magee & Elizabeth (Armstrong) left for Philidelphia, PA. USA.
Nov. 16, 1891 Anne Armstrong (Beatty) died & was buried in Laghy
1918 James McKinney Died & buried in Preston, Lancashire, England, UK.
1936 William Armstrong, Jr died in Hamilton, New Zealand.
1942 Eleanor Gergina died in the USA. (State?)
1945 Anne Mckinney (Armstrong) Died & buried in Preston, Lancashire, England.
2010-REUNITING of Armstrong descendants from UK, USA, & New Zealand!
March 2013-My first Blog created to unite more descendants from around the world!
July 2013-I expanded my blog & started this website to include more information!
