Get Started with Family History...
June 2014, my son came into my room to see what I was working on so I showed him the latest updates to our site. He asked, "How do you know where to look to find all this stuff?" He helped me realize the need for a "How to" page on our site. I think I'll start with "old school" forms & work up to Youtube, or familysearch embed code videos. - Mark

Forms are a big help, especially when you're just getting started;
*Download free Pedigree Chart: *Download free Family Group Sheet:
You'll need at least 15 or so of these to complete a Five Generation Pedigree Chart.
*Use information from your pedigree chart to fill in your Family Group Sheets.
*Fill in what you know & then have other family members help you fill in what they know.

*Visit this site for a variety of video instructions on getting started at FamilySearch: Unlike many other family history sites, registration & access to research info. is free & online!
Join Family History sites that offer a Message Board or research forums. Look to see if someone else is already researching your family & then posted a couple messages of your own. Include info. you already have and then state what info you want help finding. Check back at least once a week to read other messages while waiting for someone to reply to yours.
Consider creating a Family History website: If you're not finding research success any other way and you've already exhausted all the above suggestions, this is your next step. Decide on a site that is right for you based on your needs or objectives as well as how much time you want to devote to it. I've already designed three other Family History sites for friends since starting this one! Remember, this is a life-time pursuit; Pace yourself, don't get discouraged, and enjoy the journey!
