WHO INSPIRES YOU???
When I was younger, I thought Family History was something only old people did when they retired & had nothing else to do with their time. I envisioned them packing a small suitcase which they dragged around an old church cemetery while carrying a notepad & pencil, performing headstone rubbings on weathered family graves.
While we've come along way since the days of old cemetery maps, filing cabinets, & micro fiche readers, I still enjoy the thrill of a good hunt! Don't you love discovering something about the country where your ancestors came from, their primitive means of travelling by steamship, and bringing little more than the clothes on their backs? What motivated these people? What skills did they posses? What employment were they able to find? They may not have experienced the same technological advances we have today, but I have no doubt that their day to day concerns for their spouse & children were no different than ours. - Mark |
Here are some reasons we love doing Family History:
1) It brings the family closer together. 2) It's relaxing & via a laptop it can be done from home. (No gas or travel expenses needed.) 3) Do it at your convenience. Multi-tasking is not a problem! 4) Share thoughts with others & access information from around the world 5) Through learning about ancestors, we learn something more about ourselves. 6) Gain a greater appreciation for the sacrifices of others from their life experiences & incorporate them into your life. 7) Family pride (the good kind). What contributions have your ancestors made to their community/world? 8) Have you ever wondered, "What achievement do I want to be remembered for?" 9) Family-lore: Who doesn't love hearing funny stories about family mishaps, stories of valor, or overcoming, or childhood memories?! 10) I believe "Families Are Forever", so we will see our ancestors again. Wouldn't you like to know something about them before that time comes? - Mark |
