Kia Ora Mark, yes I am from down under in New Zealand and no I am not a direct descendant, but my grandmother's sister married into the Armstrong family as did my sister also. My grandmother's sister Ngamako King married William Harawira Armstrong. I was working on her line on the New Family Search and noticed someone else was also so I just added a bit more info that I had from my sister .Arohanui from Kiwiland Evelyn

Hi. Im the daughter of my grand dad William Armstrong...daughter of Thelma and Koro Herbert.
I'm back in N.Z. after living in Australia for 3 years; No place like home. Christchurch is changed due to the earth quake...I was born in Taumaranui. My parents were born in Kawhia. Mum, Tamara Armstrong Herbert is William Harawira Armstrong daughter. Mum died 22 years ago. She was a very kind person who loved her ancestory. Unfortunately, I don't think she saw much of her father...he remarried. I have seen photographs of grand dad & he was very fair skinned, good looking man.
I have lived down South for 45 years. Kind of more of a South Islander but on the other hand, I know where I come from. Do I have any relatives on the ARMSTRONG SIDE IN chch?
Great grandad, I have seen photographs of him too...he was a Master Mason apparently. My dad's mum was part Chinese, Maori, European I think. Reiha my grandma was fair skin and the Chinese is evident in the pics I have seen of her. Are you on, facebook? The best person to contact is my oldest sister, Milly...Or Ngamiri Kiore...just send her a friends request...she is full of information re our family tree.
There are 12 children in our family. Haki Maraea died when she was a toddler. Ngamiri, Brian, me, Donald, Beverly, Joyce, Alan, Linda, Charles, Tawhi and Judith was adopted into our family. Judy is very special to us. Linda, Tawhi and Joyce are deceased. Haki's boy Robert was killed in an accident at the age of 20. If Robert was alive he would be, 47. Robert was an awesome lad. He greeted strangers as he walked down the street. Very special...I miss him. Ngamiri has 7 children, Brian...2, me.....7, Donald...2, Beverly...5, Joyce...4, Linda...2, Charles...3, Tawhi ...5, Alan...4, & Judy...3.... Large family. Mokos almost uncountable. Lol! My latest moko, Milana Paris is a week old.
CORRECTION from Huia 6.4.14 My apology, Whanau...apparently, my Great Grand Father, Tawhi Herbert was part, Chinese...not my Grand Mother, Reiha Herbert...have just received information from my older sister, Ngamiri who is a walking book on our family history. Thanks sis.

Kia ora. I am doing a paper at te wangana o raukawa about where i come from and i thought for fun i will type in william Armstrong. I found this site. I come from Merepihopa and Rua Mahutonga who are both my great Grand parents. I am the grandson Of their youngest child Eileen, who married my Koro Emmanuel Mason. My mum is their oldest child Marina Mary Mason, and i am her only child. I had a look at the family tree and was blown away by all the information that has been collected. There are are few gaps but in all, this information can help me with my study and with my journey of finding myself in this world. Id like to thank you for designing this page as it has been very enlightening for me.
