Dad's family is scattered across the US so it had been 25 years since I had seen many of my aunts & uncles, in addition to cousins I had never met before. It was an exciting morning greeting everyone that first day with huge hugs & smiles.
We had been sitting on the sofa for a while when Uncle Tom quietly excused himself to get something out of his car. He returned a few minutes later with a ten pound cardboard box which he sat in the middle of the coffee table. It was a box of old black & white photos taken from Grandma Robertshaw's basement when she died in 1986. I immediately felt like it was Christmas morning!
Most of the photos had nothing written on the back of them so they quickly made their way around the room with everyone identifying people, estimating the year, & marking the location of each pic. There were many photos in the box that were unseen by members of the family until that day. Some photos triggered childhood memories followed by funny stories!
I borrowed the box & scanned all the treasures onto my computer where they were organized into files & copies burned onto CDs for future generations. THAT was a Family History Moment that will long be remembered!
